CHW3M - Mr. E. Johnston's Ancient Civilizations Page - Feb 2009

WEEK 1 - Feb 2-6

The first day will be an introduction to Historical Inquiry (Handout) text chapeter 1. Students will be in groups to explain one topic on how history is written. This gives us a starting point and the main issue is that history is always changing. Not everything in the text book is 100% true (sometimes we just don't know). The 2nd handout is Defining History. The main point for this is the difference between History and Pre-history. 3rd handout is Geological Time - the main point is that as Humans we have been on the planet for a short amount of time (yet we have done the most damage-ha!). Once we have established that we don't have all the answer and that we are tiny in relation to the universe we can takle a big topic / theory --- How did it all begin? or Where did humans come from? I stress that there is no correct answer for these questions - we will talk about the different theories.

Topics: 1. Book of Genesis
2. Native Creation Stories
3. Big Bang / Time
4. Science / Evolution
5. UFO
I will show a video on the evolution of man and our so called family tree. I can send it down. You should have some powerpoints on this.
